Steve Johnson and Jim Favaro founded the architecture practice Johnson Favaro in 1988 in Culver City, CA with a commitment to the public realm where they believe architecture has the greatest impact and is most appropriately experienced.
For over thirty years Johnson Favaro has focused their work on schools, libraries, community centers, cultural and civic institutions. The firm is founded on the principle that high quality and inspiring architecture in support of the social infrastructure of which these institutions are a part is crucial in the advancement of our democracy and civil society.

Jim Favaro founded the firm with Steve Johnson in 1988. He has extensive experience in planning, programming, facilities assessment, cost estimating, conceptual design and building design for scores of educational institutions, local governments and public agencies. Jim acts as principal nexus of communication, coordinating all aspects of client relations, including the working relationship with project management. He interfaces with stakeholders and special interest groups, governing and regulatory authorities, and administrative and political leadership. Jim is on the Board of Directors of AIA Los Angeles and serves as the co-chair of the Political Outreach Committee.
Steve Johnson, Principal
Steve Johnson founded the firm with Jim Favaro in 1988. He has planned, programmed and designed a multitude of projects for educational institutions, local governments, public agencies and municipalities. Steve serves as the principal project architect in charge of design, ensuring that the team integrates all information and ideas gathered from client workshops and meetings, planning and programming research and technical research into the project design. He oversees coordination of the consultant team, the production of all visual documents (diagrams, drawings, models, renderings), and assists the client in the orderly development of the project.
